Did you know there’s 9,000 people aged 100 or over living in the UK?

We noticed this interesting story in one of the newsletters we receive - written by Angela Gifford from Able Community Care Ltd.

"The United States has the highest number of centenarians, the number standing at 72,000 and this number is expected to rise to around one million by 250.

In the UK, the numbers are smaller but increasing. The Office of National Statistics gives the number of centenarians living in the UK as approximately 9,000 - a 90% increase since 1911 and an increase of 7% since 2005.

People over the age of 90 are the fastest growing population segment in the UK."

Do you care for someone who's 100 or over - or will be soon?

Welcome to Nicola Tate-Bohannon - the newest member of our team

The Support for Carers team has been joined by Nicola Tate-Bohannon, who'll be working with us part-time.

Nicola has worked in both community mental health outreach and residential support for the past 12 years so her varied experience has given her an insight into some of the difficulties and issues carers and the cared for face.

She says:

“Caring contributes a vital role for both the cared for and the wider community, the value of which should be respected and recognised by supportive services. I am very much looking forward to being part of a team that provides such a service and to meeting and supporting the carers we work with.”
