If you can’t make the face to face group why not attend the Blaby Zoom group on the 1st Thursday of each month, 7-8pm, giving you the opportunity to meet up with other carers from the comfort of your own home.

About

A Stroke Association voluntary support group aimed at caring for and helping stroke survivors of working age, their families, carers, friends and anyone who knows them. The group meets on a monthly basis with the help of four volunteers, two of which have had strokes themselves. It provides a very friendly place for people to meet and socialise plus a fun Extend exercise session run by a qualified tutor. The group describes itself as ‘an extended family rather than just a group’. It has been together for over three years and provides people with somewhere to chat over a cup of tea or coffee whilst sharing experiences and problems. Also runs social events including bowling, river cruises and trips to the seaside. Costs £3 per session including refreshments.

About

Peer support groups give carers of people with dementia the opportunity to meet with others who understand some of what they are going through. Run by a facilitator, the sessions offer a chance to ask questions, get information and share experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Activity groups give people affected by dementia the opportunity to take part in structured activities. Run by a facilitator who encourages and supports people to take part, the groups are also a chance to relax and socialise.

At this time both sessions run together, so the carer can go to the peer support group and the cared-for the activity group.
