Peer support groups give carers of people with dementia the opportunity to meet with others who understand some of what they are going through. Run by a facilitator, the sessions offer a chance to ask questions, get information and share experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Activity groups give people affected by dementia the opportunity to take part in structured activities. Run by a facilitator who encourages and supports people to take part, the groups are also a chance to relax and socialise.

At this time both sessions run together, so the carer can go to the peer support group and the cared-for the activity group.

The Alzheimers Society run CRISP, a very good 6-week programme for dementia carers giving them insight into the condition their loved one has, tips and tricks and coping strategies. We highly recommend it for all dementia carers, whether the person is newly diagnosed or has had the condition for some time.

The Share & Care Group is a social support group for people living with dementia together with their carers who live in Lutterworth and the surrounding villages. Meetings are run by professionals and volunteers who are trained to help those suffering from dementia cope better with their condition. The meetings, held in safe locations such as Lutterworth Methodist Church and the Parish Church of St. Mary, centre around a social gathering of people who share similar circumstances. Coffee mornings normally take place twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Friday from 10am to 12 noon, but the times and venue can vary. Please contact the group to find out more.

The Singing Cafe is a cafe for people with mental health challenges including memory loss and dementia. Learning cooperatives for people no longer in full time work - set up to give people the chance to learn and find out more about subjects that interest them in small, friendly groups. The idea is to learn for fun, not for qualifications. Not just for older people, there’s no lower age limit if you want to join and it’s fine if you’re working part-time. If caring commitments make it difficult to get out and about you can also join a U3A online.
