The ‘Time Out for Carers’ group meets on the first Thursday of the month from 10.30am to 11:30amn. Carers are welcome to drop into the monthly sessions at any time, you don’t have to stay for the whole morning. Come along to meet other carers near you, for advice and support and to enjoy some ‘time out’ from your caring role. The usual leader is Sheneice.

A drop-in support group for carers of people with dementia and memory problems including Alzheimer’s. Come along for an informal chat with other carers plus a cuppa and biscuit. (50p donation requested). The group also arranges activities and guest speakers. It meets the 1st Wednesday of the month from 10.30am to 12.00 noon.

Group runs on the first and third Thursday of every month. 1.30pm-4.00pm. We are a drop in support group for cancer patients, their family members and carers. Come and enjoy a complementary therapy treatment in a calm and relaxing environment. Meet and chat to other patients or carers over refreshments. No need to book. Just turn up. Therapies available include: aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian head massage and reiki. Treatments and refreshments are free of charge.

Hope House offers a warm, friendly welcome to around 8-10 local people each day, all of whom have a life limiting illness. The day lasts from 10:30 to 3:30 and a hot two course lunch is provided. Hope House is free to attend and transport is provided by volunteer drivers. Open Mondays and Thursdays. Guests must be able to feed themselves and toilet themselves, and people with dementia cannot be taken. Complimentary therapies including aromatherapy and reflexology are offered. Attendance is free and by referral only - please ring 01530 222079 to go through the simple referral process.

ONLINE understanding dementia course from the Alzheimers Society

The Alzheimers Society run CRISP, a very good 6-week programme for dementia carers giving them insight into the condition their loved one has, tips and tricks and coping strategies. We highly recommend it for all dementia carers, whether the person is newly diagnosed or has had the condition for some time.
With Covid-19, the Alzheimers Society are currently running the course by Zoom sessions. Please contact them for more details of the course including upcoming dates.

The Singing Cafe
About
The Singing Cafe is a cafe for people with mental health challenges including memory loss and dementia. Singing is good for you so why not take the person you care for along, so they can enjoy singing songs and meeting new people? Please check the website for Singing Cafe venues and times. The Singing Cafe is run by WOW Church, a registered charity, and they ask for a £3 voluntary donation per person, which includes refreshments. Accompanying carers need to stay with the person they care for.
