Hospital Discharge Grants for Carers
Are you a carer?
If you look after, help or support someone who wouldn't be able to manage everyday life without your help, and you are not employed to do it, then you are an unpaid carer.
- Does the cared for person live within Leicestershire County and are they over 18?
- Have they been discharged from hospital in the last 2 weeks and since 3rd Feb 2025?
- Have they needed your help and support to keep them safe and cared for?
Have you incurred any additional costs resulting from the discharge of the person you care for, from hospital? For example:
- Cleaning and housework in the cared for person’s home
- Preparing the home for discharge e.g. handyperson/removal of furniture
- Short-term sitting service for the cared for person to provide the carer with time to do any additional tasks post discharge
- Carer's loss of income due to time off work to facilitate the discharge
- Travel costs which can include on the day of discharge and taking the cared for person to outpatients’ appointments, picking up prescriptions and attending GP appointments with them in the initial two weeks post discharge
- Extra childcare costs associated with the discharge process
- Contribution to one-off items of equipment that will support the carer e.g. a microwave to make meal preparation easier and quicker, laundry equipment
If "YES" you may be entitled to some support from the Hospital Discharge Grant for Carers
