Blaby District Older People’s Forum

The next Blaby District Older People's Forum will be meeting on Monday 3rd December from 2pm to 4pm at the Council Chamber, Desford Road, Narborough, LE19 2EP.

This quarter, being the Christmas meeting, there will be Carols and festive songs from the Student’s Choir at Brockington College, Enderby.

The guest speaker will be Tom Allison from the NHS Falls Prevention Team speaking on the education and prevention of falls and the support system available.

If you are 50 or over and live in Blaby District, you are more than welcome to come along.

Autism event for parents

Leicester , Leicestershire and Rutland Autism Strategy Group is inviting parents and carers to an event about the new Autism Pathways on Tuesday 4th December from 10am to 12 noon at Curve, Rutland Street, Leicester, LE1 1SB. 

The event will be a chance to find out more about the new Autism Pathways and how they'll improve the diagnosis of autism in your area.

Plus, it'll be an opportunity to meet a range of Autism professionals and organisations whilst finding out about a new group launching at the event - the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Autism Champions Network. 

Car Parking is available at The NCP Car Park, Rutland Centre, 56 Halford Street, Leicester, LE11TQ .The cost is £3.90 when you get your ticket validated at Curve.

Do you have a child with communication difficulties?

Do you have a child with communication difficulties who goes to a mainstream primary school? Would you be interested in sharing your experiences with students from De Montfort University? 

The University is looking for parents to speak to students at a one day workshop on Tuesday 15th January at the University of Leicester (just off Victoria Park, Leicester) 

The University can pay you £25 (less tax) for your time.

Recovery College - have your say

Service users and carers are welcome to attend a focus group being held on Wednesday 5th December from 3pm to 5pm at the Involvement Centre, Bradgate Mental Health Unit, Glenfield Hospital, Groby Road, Leicester, LE3 9EJ to talk about the idea of setting up an education college that will offer courses around the concepts and principles of recovery.

Harborough District Voluntary Sector Support Forum - 13th December

A forum for voluntary/community groups in Harborough District is taking place on Thursday 13th December from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Youth Wing, Methodist Church, Northampton Road, Market Harborough. 

The forum will give local groups, including carers' groups, the chance to get together and share experiences and discuss topics of interest. 

The theme for this forum is Older People and guest speakers will include Simon Lawrence, Programme Director for the Community Budget at Leicestershire County Council who'll be talking about the 'Ageing Well Review'.

The forum will also be a chance to find out about local projects, including Voluntary Action Leicestershire's Older People's Project and Voluntary Action South Leicestershire's Older Person's Befriending Scheme.

Reduced price complementary therapies for carers

Local social enterprise, Good Vibrations, is offering carers reduced rates on a range of complementary therapies including Reiki for £6, Indian Head Massage for £9, Crystal Therapy for £12 and Reflexology for £12.  

Carers sessions are held on the 3rd Friday of the month from 10am to 12 noon at the Walter Charles Community Centre, Wigston Road, Oadby, Leicester LE2 5QF.

Choice Unlimited Event for disabled younger people aged 14 to 25

Leicestershire Centre for Integrated Living (LCIL) is running an event for disabled younger people on Wednesday 21st November at the Leicester Tigers Stadium from 10am until 6pm.

At this free event, exhibitors will be offering services, products, ideas and opportunities to younger people, but particularly younger disabled people (aged 14-25).

There will be areas that focus on education, training and skills, employment, health and well-being, sports and fitness.

Deadline extended for long term ill health survey

East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group has extended a survey asking patients with long-term health conditions about their experience of receiving advice and healthcare until 15th November.

Your answers will help shape improvements to health and care services in the area including Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough, Blaby, Lutterworth, Oadby, Wigston and Rutland.

Leicestershire Parent Carer Forum - 6th November

The Leicestershire Parent Carer Forum is on Tuesday 6th November from 9.30am to 12.30pm followed by lunch until 1.30pm in the Watson Room, Menphys Nursery, 20A Launceston Drive, Wigston, LE18 2FZ.

Parent carers are welcome to go along to find out more about a whole range of issues including changes taking place in the NHS and how children's centres can better understand the needs of disabled children and their families.

The Forum is also looking for a Regional Forum Representative and you'll be able to find out more about this at the event.
