Would you like to volunteer and support young carers?
Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL) is looking for a volunteer to help run its Young Carers Activity Group, based in Market Harborough. The Young Carers Activity Group is a sister project to Support for Carers.
The role will involve supporting a fortnightly evening group for young carers aged from 12 to 17, helping to run activities like cooking and games.
You'll also help new members settle in and make friends and plan new activities and ideas for the group.
You'll be asked to attend a Steering Group around three times a year to help shape the future of the group and to help out on occasional outings such as trips to theme parks.
If you're interested in working with young carers and have the confidence and skill to deliver simple activities then this could be the role for you.
You'll need to provide references and agree to a CRB (police) check before starting. In return for your time, we offer free Safeguarding training and one to one support plus valuable, rewarding work experience and lots of fun.
The role is unpaid but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
To find out more take a look at the Role Description or call Hannah Currington on 0845 689 9510 (calls charged at local rates) or email [email protected]
Are you a parent carer for a young person aged 14 to 25?
Transition is about preparing for the future in adult life and Leicestershire County Council has a Transitions Strategy for supporting young people as they move into adulthood - especially those with special needs.
To give parent carers the chance to find out more about Transition and the county's strategy, the Leicestershire Parent Carer Forum is holding a Transitions Event in partnership with the council on Thursday 11th April from 10am to 3pm at Parklands Leisure Centre, Wigston Road, Washbrooke Lane, Oadby, LE2 5QG.
At the event, you'll be able to pick up information about the support available and ask any questions you may have. The day will focus on young people aged 14 to 25 and you'll be able to attend group discussions on things like Education, Social Care and Health.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided and places will be reserved on a first come first served basis.
Please call Kirsty Neale, Parent Participation Coordinator, Together for Families on 0116 282 3659 or 07793 443 482 to find out more and to book a place.
