Learning Disability Week 18th to 24th June - help tackle hate crime

This year's Learning Disability Week will be from Monday 18th June to Sunday 24th June and will continue the great work of Learning Disability Week 2011, which saw the launch of the 'Stand by me' campaign against learning disability hate crime. Almost one million people with a learning disability have been victims of hate crime.

Over the last year, the work of Mencap campaigners has meant that police forces up and down the country have embraced the 'Stand by me' campaign and have been tackling hate crime. This is great news, but Mencap says it needs to continue. It says we have a long way to go to make hate crime a thing of the past and Learning Disability Week is a great opportunity to keep the issue at the top of the police agenda - and for people with a learning disability, their families and local campaigners to build stronger relationships with the police.

Mencap wants as many people as possible to get involved with Learning Disability Week this year, so the police know that tackling hate crime is important to lots of people.
