Carers’ Month - What’s On Guide

Leicestershire Carers Month coincides with national Carers Week, which runs from 6th-12th June.

New ‘Time Out for Carers Group’ starts in Barwell

FREE training for carers
The Carers Centre runs regular sessions to provide carers with information and advice on a variety of topics. You're also welcome to suggest ideas for future topics.
All sessions are FREE and will be held in the Meeting Room at The Carers Centre, Unit 19, Matrix House, Constitution Hill, Leicester.
These sessions start at 10am and run for up to 3 hours. The Carers Centre will look at running later sessions, depending on interest.

Mental Health Awareness Week - programme of Leicester events
Mental Health Awareness Week starts on Tuesday in Leicester, with a programme of events taking place across the City from 17th May to 21st May.
Events taking place include:
Tuesday 17th May
10:30am to 3:30pm
The Speak Up! group and The Genesis Project are taking over a market stall in Leicester Market as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. Volunteers will be available to listen, share their lived experiences, discuss options around your mental health and support your recovery with information and signposting.
Tuesday 17th May
10:30am to 2:30pm
Little Bird SOS Open Studio
Greenacres (Room 105), The Sidings, Leicester LE4 3BR
Little Bird SOS are holding an Open Day to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week. Drop in anytime from 10.30am to 2.30pm. You'll be able to find out more about their community group activities, including Revive Workshops and arts for health and wellbeing. Find out more

Network for Change is holding a Mental Health awareness event at 1st floor, 15 Wellington Street, Leicester, LE1 6HH complete with information, stalls, tombola, fun & wellbeing activities, light refreshments and a short film at 12.30pm called 'Living with Stigma'.

Leicestershire Police are holding a Health and Wellbeing Fayre at Jubilee Square and BBC Radio Leicester including a 'Get Yourself Active' Marquee, volunteering opportunities, dyslexia and disabilty specialists, Princes Trust Information Stand, physical fitness advice, free face painting, information for improving and increasing resilience, free pedal-powered smoothies, free massages, free table tennis, arts and crafts and free meditation taster sessions at the Nagarjuna Kadampa Buddhist Centre running at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. Saturday 21st May
9am to 5pm
Leicestershire Partnership Trust, Leicester City Council, Network Rail, the Police and partners from across the voluntary and community sector are holding a 'R U OK?' event near the Clock Tower. Volunteers will be taking the time to show a little care and compassion to people in the city by asking ‘R U OK?’ It's a simple question that can change a life.

Healthwatch Leicester are hosting a special radio show themed around mental health and positive wellbeing on EAVAFM, a multilingual radio station. Tune in on 102.5FM and join the discussion, listen to special guests and share your feedback on mental health services in the City.
Feel Good Friday! 20th May
Join Active Together for Feel Good Friday! on 20th May in The Symington Building, Market Harborough and learn more about positive mental health. All activities are free.

Care for someone with concerns about balance & mobility?
A rejuvenating weekly exercise programme for anyone aged 65+ with concerns about their balance and mobility, or who feel unsteady on their feet, starts around Leicestershire from 16th May - with the aim of helping to develop strength and balance.

Sessions will run weekly at the following venues and times:
